A burrowing owl is calling the walls of Fort Sumter in the Charleston harbor home. Sightings of the bird in Charleston are rare, exciting bird watchers.

I could never not track the books I’ve read each year. It doesn’t have to be public but it absolutely needs to be written down.

My most common email at the moment is from Uber Eats and I just unsubscribed from it and I’m so happy. It’s SO annoying.

Yesterday I completed something I’ve always wanted to do, a Christmas Bird Count. It was just as fun and rewarding as expected. Proud to be part of it 125 years after it started!

People love to shit on Dems but House Dems, in the face of an authoritarian executive branch and deferential House Speaker have in the first year: forced two discharge petitions (Epstein and ACA), and might win a government shutdown. Not bad for the minority!
it really feels like the end is near for Mike Johnson's speakership after a critical mass of House Republicans this morning forced a vote on ACA subsidies over his resistance

Mike Johnson needs to get used to even more defeats. But maybe he’s not defeated because he didn’t hear it!!!!
Massive defeat for Mike Johnson. Still has to clear the senate, but this is what Dems wanted all along. Johnson has essentially lost control of the gavel after Epstein and now this. Weakest speaker in history.

KIM: Have you had a convo w/POTUS about using the FCC to go after critics?

CARR: Heheh. I don't get into the specifics of conversations

K: Would it be appropriate for him to give you direction to pressure media companies?

C: I'm not gonna get into hypotheticals

K: The easy answer is 'no'

Someone in a jeep is blasting Californication and usually it would annoy me but it’s a very catchy song.

Never buy from Shein!
The people who make Shein's clothes labor for ten to twelve hours per day (in violation of China's labor laws), some up to seven days a week, and earn as little as 15 to 30 cents per t-shirt.

Trump is only cognizant of words that make him seem powerful and ones he can use to insult people. I truly think he doesn’t know how to come up with other sentences and actually know the meaning of it.

Court ruled the TX gerrymander is illegal in part bc it was spurred by a letter from Trump's DOJ that demanded a redrawing for explicitly racial reasons.

This is why I talk about sheriffs a lot when it to comes to immigration: they decide (in most states) on whether to hold people for ICE at all!
ICE abducted Leticia Jacobo and tried to deport her, she is Native American.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office, which held her for ICE, admitted that it was a ‘clerical error’.

Her family fought through layers of bureaucracy to stop her from being disappeared.
