In a whole swamp of negatives, Mikel Merino once more looked like such an effective presence around the penalty area. He links play, gets shots and keeps a cool head. He's not perfect but given the form of the alternatives, he should be leading the line for Arsenal again.

Another win, back to the top & it’s still not good enough? Will obviously feel amazing if we win something but the building narrative of the last few years is suffocating & the relatively unfair pressure on this group of players (& the fans) is sucking a lot of the joy out of the journey.

Contract talks with Thomas Partey intensifying this week. Partey's agent was a guest at Sunday's game, with both sides now pushing for a swift resolution one way or the other so that they have clarity ahead of the summer. No agreement reached yet, but both sides would prefer that he stays in London.

Plenty of pundits and fans of other clubs seem to see him as entitled/arrogant and I think it's because, understandably, they see a lot less of him than Arsenal fans who follow every game and every interview. He incessantly bangs on about standards, controlling what we can do, rising to a challenge.
