For people living with Long COVID, that gap is brutal. They’re “watching people [they] love act like none of it matters, while [their] life is barely functioning.”
Brasure links this to “identity-protective cognition”: we believe what keeps us in good standing with our community. Doctors and friends “folded” not because they don’t care, but because they’re tired, want normal, and are protecting their place in the tribe.

The thing about this is, a HUUUUUGE amount of what NASA does is earth science. Most of the reason we are able to see Earth and what’s happening here is because of NASA. This would be like blinding us to our own planet.

Reminder that for occupations where it may be essential to reveal faces, solutions exist. Transparent N95s and elastomeric respirators can be used in combination with layered protections such as clean air infrastructure, testing, and vaccines. But employers need to provide these tools for free.
