We're shocked by Trump and Musk's antics because we judge them against the idea that governments should serve the people. But they have no such intention. Government for them is simply about seizing power and wealth.
Let's stop being shocked, and build a global, democratic counter-movement.

Finally Biden has said the word: oligarchy. Why has it taken so long for the Democrats to explain what is happening?

We don't defeat populists by calling out their lies. We tried that. Facts are complicated, and the audience for populism wants simplicity. It won't work.

We defeat populists by enacting bold political ideas that improve lives for the disenfranchised, and make the world seem less grotesquely unfair.

Who would have thought that the face eating leopard party would actually eat people’s faces?
He’s just now figuring this out

At least it wasn’t the Martians invading this time.
The first drone sighting was at a military site in New Jersey, then the phenomenon spread into neighboring states. Government assurances that most “drones” were not drones at all has not tamped down curiosity.

WE ARE STILL IN THIS.
Wipe your tears.
This is the difficult business of hope and defying expectation.
We do not give up.
We run through the tape.

Y’all aren’t allowed to throw in the towel until I do. 😉

Big breath. Locked in. Let’s do this.

Ha ha. Ya think?
Now that Assad and the Russians are out of Syria, the Persian Gulf States might actually be able to make this Qatar-Turkey Pipeline happen.

This would help Europe reduce dependency on Russia energy imports and it would eliminate Iran's perpetual threat against ships near the Strait of Hormuz.

Ok. You can’t polish a turd. I’ve tried. You can however roll it in glitter which produces A much more pleasing result
You can put lipstick on a pig, you can polish a turd, and you can put an adjudicated rapist and convicted felon in the Oval Office, it won't change who they are.

He will forever be a convicted felon.
A lame duck with no mandate.

Don't just give in to him.
DEFY HIS ASS.

Yeah you go girl
In 2018 Dems elected the largest class to Congress since Watergate, ~60 seats.

A lot of it was, yes, Trump backlash. But the winners also had another thing in common, despite a wide range of differences: most rejected corporate PAC money.

It’s a hugely compelling factor to voters & underdiscussed
I think the Dems need to field gruff corruption busters at all levels whose primary campaign response to culture war issues is “All Americans should enjoy the freedom and bounty of this great country. That won’t be possible so long as venal men impoverish you and loot the country of your wealth”

Makes me sad re-reading this amazing letter from ex-Watergate Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox sent to high school seniors in 1994 after they asked him “What should Americans learn from Watergate?” 20 years later in ‘94.

His answer is remarkable—unfortunately things didn’t work out so well in 2024.

Does Bluesky have the equivalent of threadreaderapp - which compiles a thread into one document for easy reading and saving? Thanks.

How much more evidence do we need, after 29 failures, that the climate COPs are not fit for purpose? Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
There have been many proposals for a process that would actually work, but all are ignored.
The talks are MEANT to fail.
