Honestly, this was exactly the city I was thinking about during yesterday's remarks at DC's Ride for Life rally. I get (and affirm many) V0 desires, but the speed and will to get there is disappointing.

If we were more serious about living/livability, vision zero wouldn't be a future state of being
“Helsinki hasn’t registered a single traffic-related fatality in the past year…Citing data that shows the risk of pedestrian fatality is cut in half by reducing a car’s speed from 40 to 30km/hr, city officials imposed the lower limit in most of Helsinki’s residential areas & city center in 2021.”
Helsinki just went a full year without a single traffic death
The capital city is Finnish’ed with car-related fatalities.

Just finished an impromptu connect w/a fellow Brompton owner. Kind of nice to chat about the @bromptonbicycle.bsky.social, what mobility looks like from my neck of MD, and challenges of "n+1" when there are others in the home.

Certainly need to do these a bit more often (non-meetup style that is)

Just preaching my message of "wanting to do less more often" we all have our reasons.

Really neat to get out today w/my wife on a group bike ride. A ride that means more since it was the Ride for Your Life event.

It can be hard for many to associate w/such events, or even the temp closure of streets to advocate for safety. And yet, some folks want to live better. This was insightful

When you leave in a car you’re thinking “what’s the fastest way to get there?”

When I leave on my bike I’m thinking “what’s the safest way to get there?”

We are not the same

Spent the day with the brilliant Labs frame glasses in a more normal context. Definitely need to get my "super prompt" development in gear and then be ready for the Halo glasses when those come later this year / early next year

One of the better reviews of the Brompton G-line I’ve read & watched 👏🏾👏🏾🚵🏾‍♂️
Larger wheels, wider tires, and more range make the G Line Alvin Holbrook's favorite Brompton yet, even if the folding bike doesn't easily fit in an airplane overhead compartment anymore. https://bit.ly/47FqUFg

Legs arent as young as they used to be… so after a few days of cycling fun, giving things a break makes sense…

…of course this means also some window shopping for stuff. There’s a Brompton evolution happening, along w/homework for other brands.

Rest one set of legs while making use of another

If only we got as much news coverage and angst from automobile crashes…

…saying this more as someone who has lost three loved ones via autos than any thing else

Getting a chance to pedal a few different wheels the past days. First was Trek’s Checkpoint+ SL7 with the new RockShox Rudy XPLR. Today has me with Trek’s Domane SL5

Interesting rolls. Familiar to my usual rides but different. Getting my notes together for perhaps a longer narration.

Cameras have been impactful to so many moments. The closer folks are brought to a story, the more often it seems they are unable to turn away from all that ties us together.

Good to read yet another positive cycling ripple

It's not that every individual driver is a murderous asshole (I'm not!). It's that car dependency as a whole is dangerous. It's that cars are deadly when they hit people. It's that our society prioritizes drivers above all else. It's about a system that is dangerous for anyone not in a car.

Then said to them “…removing the automobile from a primary means to get around plays a big part [in maintaining friendships]. I’ve learned a lot about how I used the automobile to fill relationship bits… I’ve had to do differently without and to the diminishing of quite a few threads.

Seriously, I would’ve rather have stayed on the ebike for the rest of the day. But between the cold crispy air, and somewhere around 10 miles between each point of a triangle of meetings, that didn’t really seem to be the best.

I’ll need to pick things up as the weather continues to stay cool

Interesting to be listening to this while on my way to the Maryland Bike and Ped Committee meeting and while on MARC and @bromptonbicycle.bsky.social in hand. There’s a shape of getting around they are speaking of, that I easily live these days, which just makes sense for living well IMO
ICYMI: Yesterday, I premiered this in-depth conversation with Juliet Scott-Croxford, the President of @bromptonbicycle.bsky.social USA, about some exciting new developments 50 years after the first classic Brompton folding bike was built, including the new G and T-lines.

Today has been a Brompton day… after considering Brompton sales strategies, took some time to do some routine maintenance to both of the ones in my stead.

Looking forward to having it during tomorrow’s MBPAC meeting & the following DNR Outdoor Rec Summit ride dnr.maryland.gov/Pages/summit...

Getting a chance to help Trek (Columbia, MD) offload a few @bromptonbicycle.bsky.social bikes. Been a neat lesson in helping suburban folks see where a folding bicycle can fit into life.

🤔 If I could tweak these just a bit, might be easier to help them 💸 off the shelf
