On yesterday’s walk with the puppies Rose 🌹 found her candidate for #ThickTrunkTuesday … actually she was waiting for the tenants to return..
“I’ve been guarding this fancy fir-tree apartment for ages—at least seven seconds , which is forever in dog years. The tenants—probably squirrels, woodpeckers, or some shady pine marten—are nowhere to be found. ‘Hello? Anyone home? Rent’s due! I’m protecting this prime woodland real estate. Because if anyone’s moving in, it’s happening under my supervision… preferably after I sniff everything first.”

In this snowy grove stand two ponderosa pines—neighbors shaped by the same mountain air, yet carrying entirely different stories in their trunks. One rises straight and tall, the classic silhouette of a mature ponderosa: steady, untroubled, and confident in its place among the higher branches. Its form feels almost ceremonial, like a sentinel appointed to keep watch over the ridge. Beside it, the second tree twists with sculptural defiance, its trunk bent and contoured by years of wind, snow load, and the stubborn persistence of life in the mountains. Where the straight pine speaks of endurance, the twisted one speaks of resilience—of adapting, bending, and surviving whatever the seasons hurl its way.

Skaros Venetian Fortress sits high above the Mediterranean Sea under blue skies. There are some stairs leading to a small flat area, surrounded by boulders. Going further takes you to a narrow path for some epic views to the water and and up to Fira on the hillside. Steadying the camera (and yourself) in the gusting wind is another matter.
