those of us who have lived our entire lives wanting to die (see: BETTER by @ariannarebolini.bsky.social, out now wherever books are sold!) find this kind of death denialism FASCINATING, but pitiable. at least I do. but I’m kind of an asshole.

WIRED's Global Editorial Director @katie-drummond.bsky.social: True or false: You, Bryan Johnson, the man sitting across from me, one day at some point in the future, will die.

Bryan Johnson: False.

A Q&A on spending millions on longevity (and if it works):
Bryan Johnson Is Going to Die
Millions of dollars in treatments, supplements, and scans. Immortality through AI. Bryan Johnson’s longevity script has everything—except an ending.

When a brief excerpt about young Zohran Mamdani in a 2002 profile of his mother started spreading, I couldn't stop thinking about one of the descriptors: well-loved. What does a well-loved child(hood) do for a future? And what does love do for a campaign?

Such an honor to talk to @ariannarebolini.bsky.social about her memoir Better, what it means to be “healed,” and the craft of writing about real life.

This is a fascinating and harrowing post (esp. if you’re interested in the history of fascism & anti-fascism in the PNW).
Fellow alumni might find this Reed Magazine article on the college’s NPA event … interesting too: www.reed.edu/reed-magazin....
Since the 1950s the US right has been a coalition which has always included straight up fascists (like the people described in this post) who knew they spoke for a tiny minority, but who hoped to eventually take over the party for violent white nationalism. sethcotlar.substack.com/p/speaking-a...
Speaking at Reed College in 1965, a Portland Nazi floated the idea of building a barbed-wire topped wall along the entire Mexican border. The audience erupted in dismissive laughter. Not so funny now.

Astonishing crowd inside Manhattan Criminal Court two hours before Luigi Mangione’s follow-up appearance. Organized chaos, people are in cordoned-off gaggles down the full length of the hall, chatting casually. Feels reminiscent of fans waiting for a concert ticket line to open.

A call-out! I'm on a committee to revitalize PS88Q's library & we're considering public events to get people psyched about its existence in general. If any children's pubs might be interested in doing readings/signings—you'd be handling the sales!— pleaseeee email (see bio!)

Last year I bought a Kobo to cut the last strings tying me to Bezos (at least of those I have control over) and I have to say it uh.... has not been going well.... Does anyone have experience getting EPUBs and PDFs on a Kobo without trying like ten different cables and losing their minds???
