I don't want National in power but if Labour get in and try to fix shit they'll inevitably be blamed *again* for spending money and be voted out by the dimwits with short memories, this shitty loop needs to stop

What a balls up, testing one curriculum with another curriculum's tool that was already problematic and then it's just a small part of the curriculum being tested... The validity here is near zero. Stanford is incompetent in this role.
Beyond the methodological flaws and lack of evidence, the mental model of a large number of NZ adults is that mathematics is a synonym for arithmetic. Geometry and algebra are not useful for accountancy so they don’t count.

Maths professor says Education Minister's claims a school trial is 'groundbreaking' is problematic
Erica Stanford said the results showed the government's focus on fixing the basics is working.

Te Mātaiaho: transparently written by a range of experts with indigenous perspectives and paced for a gradual rollout. The Standford curriculum: hidden authors, minimises Māori, ableist, rushed.

Teachers should revolt and demand a return to the original Te Mātaiaho curriculum development.

Callous and stupid.

"the one in four children in our local schools who are disabled and/or neurodivergent could be collateral damage from the minister’s refresh"

We have had some terrible Ministers of Education in our history but Stanford is shaping up to be our worst. #nzpol
Education's Stanford experiment not for everyone
From Auckland University - Opinion: The exclusion of disabled children from the latest iteration of the curriculum can be added to the list of problematic ministerial decisions in education.

Much of this is sinister, takes power away from schools and teachers and sets schools up to be graded, compared, sorted and penalised. Experienced and qualified educators, unlike the two ministers involved, won't find much positive news here.

Here's a long, depressing list of funding cuts and reductions in NZ education from April this year. It's all being vaguely "reinvested" in education but who knows where, when, how and who actually benefits. www.education.govt.nz/our-work/pub...
Reinvestment
$613.5 million of operating funding over 4 years will be reinvested into evidence informed frontline services, learning supports, and curriculum resources to help lift achievement for all learners.

Year 3 students (7-8 yr olds) in Aotearoa are gonna lap up the stuff about lfred Brehm (1829–1884) who recorded observations of animal diets and feeding behaviours (I mean, don't we all!!). His writings popularised zoology and animal studies in Europe! Relevant, cool! Science is all white, guys!
