Wrasse fin-esse 😎🧪
📑 #NewStudy by Tariel Adam et al. used citizen science to find evidence of tool use in several species of wrasse – in a part of the ocean where tool use by fish had never been recorded before.

Dismantling ORD would have tragic consequences for wide swaths of international research, including almost all forms of chemical safety and protection from occupational or environmental exposures.
Holy shit. I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say they’re trying to kill us all.

“The Environmental Protection Agency plans to eliminate its scientific research arm, firing as many as 1,155 chemists, biologists, toxicologists and other scientists”
Trump Administration Aims to Eliminate E.P.A.’s Scientific Research Arm (Gift Article)
More than 1,000 chemists, biologists and other scientists could be laid off under a plan to dismantle the Office of Research and Development.

it's been over 50 years since the EPA was created (by Nixon admin) and people forget.
This is what many cities in the U.S. looked like before the EPA.

Why the heck would anyone celebrate deregulating it?

As someone who works at a water management agency, I can assure you every person in the US relies on the work at NOAA and the EPA for uncontaminated drinking water.

This is not a surprise. We know what causes CO₂ to increase in the atmosphere and we know how to stop climate change. We just don’t want to.
Half of world’s CO2 emissions come from 36 fossil fuel firms, study shows
Researchers say data strengthens case for holding firms to account for their contribution to climate crisis

I agree! And also have this exact list as the base for my core personality! 💫
Hey, artists, in case you were wondering if your work matters: I'm a scientist working on climate change and biodiversity, and I would not be who I am today without The Lorax, The Secret of NIMH, Watership Down, The Last Unicorn, and The X-Files. I know I'm not alone. Thank you for all you do.

Ok, I made a new starter pack: Science Job Accounts! I want to try & collect together account that are likely to post jobs/internships/employment opportunities in science. It is heavily US/Ecology based (and would probably be better as a feed). Please suggest other accounts!! go.bsky.app/QPGnfWu

Such a tragic loss. Codty was a bright star standing up for clean water and healthy fisheries in southwest Florida, and was really just getting started. He will be missed 💔
