Yeah, there's something to this. The best way to prevent the Dodgers from making Kirby Yates their 5th best reliever is if someone else had made Kirby Yates their 3rd best reliever over the last four months.
but also everyone else has had multiple months to sign guys who aren't Sasaki so like. Why aren't they, stop leaving the Dodgers players to spend their endless funds on

I had 3/58.5 in my final projections so this isn't a wild overpay, but 3/67 with an opt out and giving up a draft pick is pretty wild when the 2nd highest salary for the A's is Brent Rooker's projected $5M arb award.
