Hearing from more people after this went out.

"We're all pissed. This was a lot of unnecessary stress on people and their families for nothing. And if I win the lottery tonight I absolutely will spend millions to hire people to follow these 8 Dems around for a year and make their lives miserable."
I heard from a bunch of federal employees last night and this morning. They aren't happy.

"I would rather be an actual pawn. At least pawn sacrifices are calculated and achieve something. All this for a fucking meaningless vote."

I have to hand it to Democrats. I'm one of the feds working and not getting paid and they manage to make reopening the government feel worse than the alternative.

Like, why did I miss 2.5 paychecks to end up right back where we were before the shutdown started?
Not a political consultant but I’m not sure “standing up to trump doesn’t work” is the best midterm message, even if if accurately represents senate dems position. Not much point in putting you in power then bsky.app/profile/atru...

Burying the Bruises
The White House insists Donald Trump’s visible bruises are nothing, but medical experts say the explanation doesn’t hold up. Why are the country’s biggest newsrooms silent?

i find this image so fascinating. it is both a literal example of authoritarianism but also a second-hand reproduction of the aesthetics of other authoritarian states. it's like a simulacra of authoritarianism whose purpose is to attempt to make the simulacra real.
This is a real photograph of Washington, DC this week, where the United States president has ordered military occupation in peacetime, and ordered the display of colossal portraits of himself.

The Supreme Court’s conservatives bear SO much blame for this disaster. They really thought they could let Trump fire every agency leader EXCEPT members of the Fed, and Trump would abide by their stern admonition to leave the Fed alone. Embarrassing stupidity. www.nytimes.com/live/2025/08...

Bolton is the ideal test case for Trump doing this because no one really likes Bolton. And it dos upset me to say it, but we’ve got to stick up for him because if not, expect this sort of FBI raid to become commonplace.

I hope that there is accountability for these DOGE bros. They have wrecked so many lives.
On the left: Nate Cavanagh, a 28-year-old DOGE staffer and college dropout.

On the right: Mohammad Halimi, a 53-year-old exiled Afghan scholar.

This is the story of how DOGE targeted Halimi on social media.

Then the Taliban took his family. 🧵

We are already seeing folks generate delusional and psychotic states by granting more sentience to AI than it has as it obsequiously yeses people into grandiose delusions.

And now you are going to ask it to safeguard your psychedelic experience.
