Everything is tied back to disability. When people are dehumanized, many do what they can to tie it to disability somehow and make it so that they don't get treated with decency. "That person is mentally ill." "They are lazy." "They're stupid." By fighting ableism, you're fighting dehumanization.

Before we talk more about disability, we need to address the history of eugenics, ableism and racism that haunts US public health work.

Republican AGs claiming to clarify they're not going to get rid of Section 504 in Texas v. Becerra Lawsuit doesn't actually change anything in the case, and Section 504 is still at risk, according to this letter by @thearcus.bsky.social, @dredf.bsky.social...

Eugenics against disabled people are ramping up, it’s BAD, we will die VERY QUICKLY.

What you’re doing RIGHT NOW is what you’d have done “back then”.

We NEED nondisabled people to speak up, to act up, to do SOMETHING, because your voices & actions always carry more weight in our ableist society.

Section 504 prohibits discrimination against disabled people & guarantees equal access to anything (services, programs, buildings, etc.) that receives federal funding. It paved the way for the ADA. The sit-in that got it passed is an extraordinary moment in US history.

I am incandescent with rage.

It's important to take time away from social media especially now. It's cliche to say but no less true. Go touch grass be it literal or virtual. Subjecting yourself to 24/7 doom and anxiety does nothing but burnout. Having reprieve to process and think gives you the space to find new ways forward.
