What on Earth is this? An "in depth" BBC article about free speech in the UK that only cites examples of right-wing/ 'anti-woke' speech being suppressed. How can you mention Lucy Connolly but completely ignore Palestine Action / Just Stop Oil? Gob-smacking. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
How the simmering UK freedom of speech row reached boiling point
How did we reach a point where the UK is being compared to a 'tin pot Third World dictatorship'?

Oh look, Labour has spent months targeting the wrong voters.
Labour's next biggest losses are to left-liberal parties (Liberal Democrats and Greens).

Reform's growth in support has mostly come from the Conservatives and non-voting (much less from Labour).

These reflect patterns of party-bloc voting that we saw in the 2024 UK GE: tinyurl.com/y5pv7thw

"Whatever the government has been doing in the last year in polling terms evidently has not worked. It does seem a lot of what they have been doing is attempting to compete with the parties of the right on their own terrain."

Today Nick Ferrari asked if treaties like the ECHR & the Refugee Convention that were drawn up in the wake of WWII are still relevant to modern Britain.

I said the context of racial hatred towards Muslim immigrants now echoes the hatred of Jewish immigrants in the 20th century. We need these laws.

I used to be one of those English people with an embarrassingly poor grasp of Northern Ireland's politics and history.

I think loads of people sounding off about the ECHR just don't really understand its crucial role in the peace process. This piece from my colleague explains it really well
When Stormont failed us, the ECHR protected us
Pierce Robinson explains how the ECHR underpins the Good Friday Agreement - and why leaving it could endanger peace in Northern Ireland.

Nigel Farage has the unpopular position on scrapping human rights. The media/political discourse always implies his position is gaining ground. The evidence since Trump was elected is quitting has flatlined, and staying in increased.

Day in, day out, I speak to ordinary people who are organising to welcome the asylum seekers accommodated in their towns.

They befriend, support them, reach out to them as fellow human beings.

That's the Britain I know, the one I see around me & we never get told about on TV.

5 years after Brexit, it’s shamefully clear that UK is being left behind on environment policy. With few exceptions, Govt has *deliberately* chosen not to keep up with standards of EU neighbours. Worse, in a number of areas they’re planning to actively go backwards @ieep.eu

On the 80th anniversary of Hiroshima, it's worth reflecting on the past and on where we are now.

The UN, EU, & ECHR were set up after WW2 to bring lasting peace, & to protect people.

It's on all of us to remember that - and challenge those seeking to tear them down
