I know it’s not true that no federal agency has used a qualifying exam in 43 years because I literally took one in 2005. My score on an economics exam got me 5 interviews with surveys at BLS. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/o...

I actually really appreciate DDOT spelling out that you should not go over 15 mph on the MBT when it’s busier. Since acoustic bike commuters go around 12, I have wondered if it’s rude to go faster than that. 15 seems reasonable, and it’s nice to have like a safe harbor guideline

This one is tough. David was so kind and always very generous with his time. Unfailing love and support for DC soccer teams. Had stories for days and a unique perspective a lot of us are going to miss.
The District Press staff was sorry to learn today that longtime commenter (and former mayor of Albuquerque) David Rusk has passed away. He was a valued and supportive member of our community for many years, and our thoughts go out to his family and loved ones.

.@maustermuhle.bsky.social has a dispatch from MPD's wet lab, where police train to spot drunk drivers by serving up drinks to volunteers, "on a weekday. At 10:30 in the morning."

(OK, yes, he partook —  if only “in the name of science and safety.”)

🚨 Starting a new thread here because I think there may still be more attempts to delay ranked-choice voting in D.C.

It is currently set to be implemented for next June's primary, but some back and forth today makes me think two councilmembers could try to derail that.
Interesting: In testimony to the D.C. Council about implementing ranked-choice voting next year, elections board director Monica Evans says reporting results will take longer, up to 10 days after the election. That's because all mail ballots need to be received before counting.

It’s great to have money for math teaching, but I am baffled by the plan to make it more difficult for kids to take advantage of the tutoring by making them travel to another location. Why not pay more interventionists to work at the schools where the kids are? www.washingtonpost.com/education/20...

We treat teens in public so much worse than teens in cars, even though the cars are a million times more dangerous
Among the things my teen kid does that makes me proud is his sense of freedom to travel around DC. He gets so much confidence and joy from those outings, similar to how I'd spend hours lost in pastures and the creeks where I grew up.

Curfews are a blunt tool. Dent the wood but don't hit the nail.
DC needs a better answer for teenagers than saying they can never legally go outside after 8pm again

I've heard so many people ask over the last few months: Whatever happened to that $1.1 billion Congress wouldn't let DC spend this spring?

Many assume that money is still sitting around somewhere, but it's not! DC actually spent pretty much all of it. I found out how:

District leaders used creative accounting to spend hundreds of millions in revenue, despite federal lawmakers holding up the money.
