W.E.B. Du Bois on Robert E. Lee:

“Either he knew what slavery meant when he helped maim and murder thousands in its defense, or he did not. If he did not he was a fool. If he did, Robert Lee was a traitor and a rebel–not indeed to his country, but to humanity and humanity’s God.”

Today in history, 1938: The Nationalist Chinese Government purposely floods the Yellow River without warning in an attempt to halt the rapid advance of Japanese forces in the Second Sino-Japanese War. It has been called the “largest act of environmental warfare in history.” /1

My goal has been to make Illinois the best state to raise a family — that starts with kids having access to what they need so they can focus on learning and growing.

Illinois was among the first states to implement SUN Bucks, and this year is no exception.

On Friday, a judge ordered the release of Rümeysa Öztürk, a Tufts student seized by ICE in March. The ruling affirms our habeas and due process rights—just as Stephen Miller suggests erasing them. The law is not on his side. Jen Rubin and I break it all down.
Judge Rules that Detained Tufts Student Must Be Released: Andrew Weissmann explains
"There's a presumption of innocence, and you don't put people in jail unless there's a good reason that's proved by a certain level of proof"

This is such an excellent point and media should be reporting it this way. (This is in reference to Miller’s preposterous but still dangerous claim earlier today about the executive branch considering suspending the writ)
The headline is deeply misleading. You can’t suspend habeas corpus just “for migrants.” As we’ve seen, ICE will pick *anyone* up. If you have legal status but no right to habeas corpus, you’ll have no ability to challenge your detention or deportation. Suspension for some is suspension for all.

Trump wants to control what’s taught in colleges—but the U.S. leads the world in top universities for a reason. Because we funded innovation & let them operate freely—they thrived. Now Trump wants to gut that.

Reminder: Presidents can’t legally defund schools. This is authoritarian cosplay!
