Openly a professional programmer. Less open personally. Queer and tired.
I have to say that both quantity and nature of LLM enthusiasm in my chosen field is truly eye-opening.

The fucking face I made when this notification popped up about a former employer.

I was on a call with some folks from Dell, talking through their product offerings, and on the topic of monitors even larger than this, one asked "who wouldn't want even more monitor?"

I did have to chime in to say "me, I don't want larger monitors."

Got a brand new giant 40-inch 5k curved ridiculously widescreen display for Official Work Reasons, and I honestly don't know what to do with all of it, so I did this.

Trying to migrate off Github Pages for one of my websites is involving way more yak shaving than I imagined.

So, Github Pages builds a static site with Jekyll. And it's easy enough to set up Jekyll with the right gems to build it yourself, so that part's no trouble.

Updating my Chrome extension for Manifest V3 has shown me that the process for updating extensions has become downright cruel and punitive.

It's clear the chrome web store has different review standards depending on how many users you have. The beta version of my extension, with less than 100 users, gets updates approved within a few hours. The main version, with over 40k users, has been in review purgatory for the past several days.

Turns out that switching to modern ES imports, as required for Manifest V3, has completely broken the unit test runner I used for the project.

Fixing it doesn't seem trivial. I may have to completely scrap and redo my whole unit testing infrastructure.

I'm kind of surprised I still have 40,000 active users. I really need to figure out how to transfer control of this extension out of my old account.

Better late than never, I guess. I'm finally taking the time to migrate my Chrome extension to manifest v3. While I'm at it, I'm going to see about squeezing in some of the features I've had half-implemented or just proof-of-concepted.

Exciting news! I have been awarded a surprise vacation of indeterminate length!

I'm increasingly distrustful of consumer cloud storage providers. Frankly, I don't think they should get to have opinions on what you store. Wondering if there's something nearly as easy to use as, say, Dropbox, but encrypted such that even the host can't tell what you're storing?

I think I don't actually know how to job hunt anymore. Too many years of jobs basically falling into my lap just by waving my skill set around.

I probably should've put more effort into building up this account so that it would mean something when I put out the call to see if anyone is hiring software engineers for remote work.

Watching my girlfriend learning Javascript and I'm thinking "y'know, maybe === isn't enough, what if I really, *really* want to be sure these values are the same?"

So anyway I think you should be able to put as many equal signs as you want to indicate how serious you are about the equality check.

The forced PragerU anti-trans ad on Twitter is fucking bleak.

Man, what are you even supposed to say in response to the idea that every single member of a particular ethnic group must 100% support and endorse everything a particular government does? That's so far removed from a reasonable claim you can't even address it.

Saying this over and over:

When we fight—It is for everyone to benefit.
When Black people fight for safety and a space being fun

It’s for **everyones** benefit. Always.
I just want to say that your work bringing /community/ into this app was why I felt safe making it a home back in that first rush in April. I'm so disheartened by how little respect you've been given for it. You built so much.

It's rare for me to say that the devs of any particular project deserve harassment, but this time it's well earned.

I think if my coworkers understood what the 🥵 and 👀 emoji connote in all the online conversations I've been in, they would use different emoji in work Slack.
