The central cluster (NGC 2244) is made up of young, massive stars whose intense UV lights up the entire nebula.
Captured this week with a 4-hour exposure using a Newtonian 130/900.
I might revisit the processing later and add Ha capture.

December 24, last night of #ArtAdventCalendar and #ChristmasEve best wishes all! Multiple shots of late summer #aurora. Covered the entire sky, I've only seen one other this big & it had less colour (but added sound!) More in alt text.

Aurora looking east and mostly up, white central light looking a little like a bird in flight, with shades of pink around the edges, lighter below and deeper above. The white and pink was mostly higher in the sky, and was moving and changing constantly. Stars visible in background, and treetops silhouetted in bottom right. Aurora looking southwest. Our large poplar is silhouetted against curtains of pink and white. The greens were early in these photos, but by about 1:30 am these pink and white dancers started in the east-northeast, and just took over the entire sky. They really did billow and dance and spread over every direction. A brilliant aurora of greens at the bottom shifting to pink higher up. Trees in silhouette at lower left and right. Looking directly north. The aurora started here to the north, about midnight, with long low ribbons of green that got taller, wider, and brighter through the entire morning. I was out from a little after midnight until after 2 am, and things were still glowing. One of the more spectacular sky patterns of white and pink, looking almost straight up. Perhaps resembling a bird? Or a dragon? Has the look and feel of wings swept fully upwards, in bright white light with a little pink/red outline. Stars visible behind. It was amazing to watch.

The view homewards.

The sky beyond the mountains is covered with clouds with slivers of blue visible in-between. The light of the setting sun casts a golden sheen on the clouds. Some lone, low-sailing clouds that hover in the transitional zone between the dark and the snow-covered part of the right-hand mountains, appear like golden animals running through the ether. The water reflects the gold on its creased surface.
