Also in an era of worsening urban traffic, urban pollution, urban noise, exploding public costs, competition among cities, & not nearly enough space in cities.

Just did another media interview on the ways to actually achieve (and keep) households with kids in your downtown and urban places. He was very interested in our Downtown Sacramento Livability Strategy, so I sent it to him. And I thought I’d post it again for you too. Take a look through it.
ICYMI: Our BOLD NEW Downtown #Sacramento Livability Strategy has been making waves locally, nationally & internationally! When you read it, you’ll get why we say it needs to be a powerful TURNING POINT. Who needs another report sitting on a shelf collecting dust!

It’s not just about what you remove (cars, noise, dirty air). It’s about what you add (people walking, a lot of bike parking, trees, outdoor dining, and room for kids to play safely). Amsterdam: 1986 and today.

Streets for people.

Paris & @annehidalgo.bsky.social are praised for their visionary, progressive city-building, but they don’t get nearly enough credit for just being really pragmatic! Everything they’re doing is common sense.

They’re moving a lot more people with less space while cleaning the air & cooling the city.

Most regular people have no idea how restrictive zoning is in most North American cities.

Yes, we try to separate people from destinations. We mandate arbitrary amounts of parking. We treat any housing denser than a single-family home as an aberration that needs to be carefully managed.
Wait, there's a prohibition on corner stores?
