One of the greatest achievements in transit that no one talks about is the extent to which MTA subway mosaics have been installed. Simply going through the list of installations, it's become apparent to me that the vast majority were created during my lifetime

150 mph operation, while not 220 mph operation is still insanely fast and a good standard to be aiming for on a lot of corridors in the US

New AC sleep mask for business passengers. Top notch. We need this elsewhere. Too bad the amenity kits now need to be requested

Reason #7 why the bike priority areas are great

I have to say, lighting makes a real difference in terms of reducing a sketch factor at stations. These light towers are less than ideal so hopefully BART is avale to fund permanent fixtures in and around station lands

Once again, NPR doing the actual journalism on national policy issues that ends up getting figured out when some old crank that only listens to the radio becomes president and does a massive Great Society/Build Back Better-style funding plan

Hey Toronto folks, remember when people kept driving their cars into the Union Station tunnels? Well BART now its own version of that

There is no BART service between Antioch and North Concord because a car crashed into our trackway near Pittsburg/Bay Point.
Riders should go to North Concord. Some buses are available.

While this project is insanely expensive and not the most well thought out, it's absolutely one of the most important transit projects in the US:

The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey
BIG NEWS: We just received a federal loan of up to $1.9 billion to support the first phase of the Midtown Bus Terminal replacement project, with construction to begin this year. The project, which.....

Seems like this is the first confirmation that BART has exercised all options for FOTF trains, and I’m all here for this
bart.gov BART @bart.gov · Jan 7
Yes, we are still getting more new cars, which is a great thing for the Bay Area and we thank all of our funding partners.

BART’s legacy fleet had 775 cars. We now have 860 news cars and that number will grow to 1129.
Saw this @bart.gov car rolling through Tehachapi on the 58. Must be some kind of new BART service to Vegas.

Reasons this thing was studied as a metro:
1. It's long — 20+ mi long, and a lot of people would be using it to go large distances
2. RR would be more expensive because of geography
3. BRT would not serve the nodes it needs to serve
4. LRT would be all grade separated for no additional benefits
San Diego is studying building its first subway line.

The Purple Line is projected to have nearly 30,000 daily riders, cost more than $20 billion and take at least 15 years to complete.

It's going to be built and get federal funding.

This is Pennsylvania and Michigan erasure and I will not accept it.
January 2, 2025 at 9:28 PM
Another answer: we should be studying absolutely everything we can think of.

SAS Phase 3/4/West, 7 to NJ, PATH to EWR and Hoboken, IBX, Nostrand Ave, Utica Ave, QBL Extension, W to Coney Island via Sea beach — and that's not even half of NY

Find the good projects and have them lined up
