I am deeply trusting and faithful and optimistic about many things in this world, but to feel that way about anything the current U.S. regime does is not optimism; it's either denial about how authoritarianism operates or denial that we're under an authoritarian regime at all.

Also my grumbling pedant thing is the Cuyahoga actually caught fire at least three times. The one everyone remembers is actually after they passed a bond measure to finally start cleaning it up, and the time magazine cover of that fire is actually from an earlier fire
