this is probably going to appeal to no one, but i got the sweet, sweet opportunity to write about TEXHNOLYZE, an anime so bleak and nihilistic that life feels like a lovely fever dream in comparison. here's a peek into something i love so ardently:

The White Lotus Season 3 Finale Subverts Expectations In The Most Egregious Ways - SlashFilm
The White Lotus season 3 finale subverts expectations, but not in a good way. Here's why even the most bittersweet resolutions leave an unsavory aftertaste.

if any outlets are interested in commissioning a piece on SERIAL EXPERIMENTS LAIN, please let me know! critical analyses of the series mostly treat it as some kind of weird, obtuse artifact, and I want to do a deep dive into its ethos and why it shouldn't be overlooked 🖤 #lain #anime

My wife and I are floored by the level of support from our community after these fires. We are going to be OK.

If you want to support those affected by the wildfires in Altadena, please signal boost these displaced families and donate if you can:

I'm so happy I can finally share this. I interviewed @jumpovertheage.com ahead of Citizen Sleeper 2's release later this month. It's a really tremendous game everyone should seek out and try. www.engadget.com/gaming/citiz...

completely migrated from the other site because folks are being unbearably mean. and I'm really exhausted, and want to feel safe, even if it is for a while. I don't want to lose sight of my love for art by being dragged into the insufferable discourse of it all. I hope I can do that.

Essential piece by Kate Wagner about the state of the media.

It has never been harder for people trying to survive while writing (or making stuff in general). And the worst is probably still ahead.

Again, the current Wikipedia page for “Film Criticism” claims movie critics make an average of $63,474 per year. This is MUCH more than most critics make. It also claims TV critics make $40,000-60,000 per month. PER MONTH.

What people believe about *every aspect of this industry* is WAY off.
There is a persistent myth that if you work in entertainment - if you've done something people have absolutely heard of or enjoyed - that you must be rich. Actors, writers, producers: rich.

The sad truth is most of Hollywood is working class. So when you see a Go Fund Me, there's a reason it exists

they weren't lying. GLADIATOR II is Denzel Washington's arena, and he knows exactly how to entertain the crowd. everything else is epic and brutal, and Mescal makes a fine Lucius, but the shadow of its predecessor looms large. I still had a very, very good time. also Pedro hot af (obv)
