I write about balancing life and career management (and industry ethics questions) - as a working parent, in tech. Learn to navigate the crazy new world of work-parent-life-while-the-world-is-burning with me.
This documentary is so eye-opening, for someone like me who's trying to understand the source of all this free market economy vs socialism "divide". Thank you for writing it @danielyergin #DanielYergin youtu.be/gfRTpoYpHfw?...

At #BCIT, it's great that multiple teachers tackle the same concept from different perspectives (Business Math vs Finance vs Quant Methodologies). It's a meta-lesson in teaching.
e.g. in teaching valuation of bonds: breaking down into a replicable pattern VS stream-of-consciousness

The best thing that I can take away from the Trump administration is a masterclass in...audacity.

If over half of the US Congress actually stands for killing the education department. Well. I don't know what other sign is needed that that government doesn't care about its people.
And this is coming from someone from a developing country in the top 25% of corrupt countries.

In a world of more and more shifting things, it's now a lot more soothing for me to read a static page.

Things I know to be true: The US Government is currently governed by narcissists. Narcissists feed off attention.

Wasn't there some...group that was diligently tracking and countering Trump's lies every single time? I'm sure it's tiring work (and this is where community-driven verification comes in) But, it feels so odd seeing him make things up every day, as if it's "normal". And not libellous.

If there's a life mission that I'll probably work towards - it'll likely be this.
In Finland, media education has been part of schools since the 1950s and is woven into the curriculum. Students learn about propaganda, misleading statistics, and even create their own media messages to understand how narratives shape perception.

@timbl.bsky.social , please show these profiteering arrogant f*cks that they'd be nowhere without generosity and a belief in humanity.

First thought after the Tate brothers flew to Florida: Somewhere in the decision-making chain of the current administration there must be a market research company. Although, at this point, I'll guess it's operating in Russia.

If it were a movie, it would be so exciting to watch the most influential nation in the world being driven by a gullible, insecure, emotionally irrational man. Or two.

In BC we have a "Step Code" for building energy efficiency that provides both a variable on-ramp, and a fixed endpoint, for building codes.

For urban design and zoning, this is the endpoint.
This is "Step 5" planning.

Maybe because I grew up in a country heinously known for corruption, and the dictator was still in power when I was a toddler, I've learned to spot corruption red flags even in grade school. We know what it looks like. Not that what's happening in the US'd be hard to identify, by now.

Sometimes. Sometimes. I wish those darned marketing bootcamps weren't so widespread and effective.
Ah. Would've been fine. If there were equally widespread ethics workshops.

What's the best way to deal with an adult liar? 🤔

Asking as: a parent who only reads up about handling kids' lying, and someone who just read the part of On Tyranny where @timothysnyder.bsky.social mentions the current POTUS lied an average of 27x/day, by 2020.

Hold up. I didn't realize that there were 86 titles in various states of book banning in the US as of today. Including Fahrenheit 451 and The Book Thief. Leaders co-opting "free speech" as an excuse. My takeaway: We need to stop sharing the language fascists use to justify their censorship. #aSpade

Whoever thought of hyping up or leveraging "culture wars" [intentionally] might be the most evil-ly brilliant person to walk this earth.

These are unprecedented times. I've been trying to cram reading about the Roman empire, and going against fascism. But, the technology factor is a nice, fat wrench. We're going to need our whole, and healthy brains for this era.

This is like a bully realizing that he relies on a community of peers to get by in school, especially for group assignments,
but he doesn't know how to genuinely get along with others, so he just lashes out to hopefully bully them into working with him.

In 1968 Finland banned for profit education, the few private schools that exist in Finland have to reinvest any profit they make or pay it back to parents.

It has been in the Top 3 in education for the last 20 years.

There should be no profit in education or healthcare.

I love how "cancel culture" is barely complained about these days. When so many are now wrongfully AND systemically being silenced for being anti-______ when they're really speaking out against a government's war crimes.
