2024-25: the richest fifth paid 30% of gross household income in direct taxes, poorest fifth 16%.

The richest fifth paid 11% of disposable income in indirect taxes, poorest fifth 27%.

The poorest pay higher proportion of income in taxes.

Can't revive economy on that.

Must redistribute.

SANCHEZ: I'm not sure how it's good diplomacy to say that a neighboring country should be the 51st state and that you're gonna impose economic hardship to achieve that goal.

Always confused when UK commentators seek to understand what Farage says and does purely on the basis of domestic political tactics.
Perhaps the man just means what he says? As in, he sympathizes with Russia, resents Zelensky, loathes the EU, &thinks of Trump as a kindred spirit?

New law to ban bonuses for polluting water bosses in England, says UK govt.

Unenforceable, as I said in parliament. Thames Water has said that it will circumvent by increasing base pay of bosses.

Best options are customer-elected directors on company boards, customer vote on exec pay.

This is incredibly smart by @ryanhatesthis.bsky.social, a lesson Democrats have to learn fast.

There will be no a-ha moment for the electorate. You can't wait around for people to realize how bad it is if they'll invariably wind up blaming the Reverse Vampires. You just have to fight, right now.
