My recollections of 15 June 1974 when Kevin Gately was killed by police at an anti-NF demonstration at Red Lion Square, in London.
On this day in 1974, Kevin Gately, a Warwick University student, was killed at an anti-fascist demonstration in London, almost certainly by a blow from a police officer's truncheon.

Former Searchlight editor Andy Bell was there, and writes about it here:

Today is the anniversary of the deaths of two men, more than 40 years apart.

Each was hugely important in the anti-fascist movement, and I was privileged to work closely with both of them.

50 years ago today there was a mass action against the National Front in Oxford which was historically important for a number of reasons.

I wrote about it here:

Oxford 1975: A lesson in anti-fascist unity
In May 1975, a huge-anti-National Front demonstration in Oxford tried to stop the Front meeting in the Town Hall. It was an event which even now holds important lessons for anti-fascists.

Peter Marriner, for many years a hugely successful undercover informant infiltrating the British far right, has died at the age of 77.

In this article for Searchlight I pay tribute to an extraordinary man and hero of the anti-fascist movement who made enormous sacrifices for the cause.

Excellent piece from Dave Rich on the implications of changes to Facebook and other Meta entities.
Changes announced by Meta this week - ditching fact-checkers & removing automated filters for hate speech - confirm that they never really believed in the need to remove hate content, and now, in a Muskovite online world, they don't have to pretend. everydayhate.substack.com/p/meta-opens...

Three years ago today we lost Andrew Jennings, on of the most extraordinary investigative journalists of our times, who dragged the corruption of the International Olympic Committee and FIFA into the light of day.

A few personal recollections of a friend who was part Columbo, part Clouseau...

On 24/11/43, a German plane attacked and sank a British motor torpedo boat, MTB 73, at La Maddelena, Sardinia. Two crew members died and my father, Sam Bell, was wounded. Last year, I decided to find out more.

I really wasn’t prepared for what I discovered:
