This needs to be better known. People are getting fired over picture book displays.

This is a fantastic piece of rigorous, in-depth reporting. It will make you want to pass out with rage. But definitely read it.

International students are being hunted on their campuses. For raising their voices for justice. This is pure evil.
Video of the international student at Tufts being arrested by "federal authorities" in Massachusetts has been released and it's terrifying.

They're not even uniformed officers. Just secret police thugs in hoodies and masks.

Yeah, this is a perennial truth -- landmark struggles over free speech typically involve people who are saying and doing things that are *unpopular*

That's, uh, why they need the protection of the First Amendment. It's sort of the whole point.
if you find yourself reluctant to support the guy at Columbia because you find some of the politics he espoused distasteful or even abhorrent, you should know that this is exactly the reaction that they hoped for in choosing him as a target for unlawful detention based on political speech.

Meta literally created a LGBTQ exception for calling someone mentally ill as an insult. You can't do it for any other group except LGBTQ people.

I'll never forget the time I went solo on a lark and experienced an epic, multi-part storyline with Hecate. I was sent on missions across floors and miraculously completed them. I was the sole witness to entire scenes in hidden rooms. Even leaving that night, I wasn't sure it had really happened.
And with that, Sleep No More, the iconic immersive production in NYC, comes to an end. Thanks to Ricky Brigante for capturing the final curtain call, and to @kathrynyu.com for sending it my way. End of an era

Writers: when drafting, what's your threshold for moving beyond words that you immediately suspect you'll want to change in revision?

Do you flag a cliché description and keep going? How about a whole scene that seems flat? How much has to feel "wrong" before you halt forward progress and rethink?

Here's the thing: we are all going to have to fight this. Because it isn't going to stop.

I'm glad she's fighting, and I hope she wins

here's my latest essay on generative AI and how it does a terrible job for writers, particularly at replicating the effects of community.

but i must repeat what has been said by so many online: if nobody cares to write it, why should i care to read it?

Why would writers use AI?
More like NaNoWriNO, am I right? … NaNOWriMo? Maybe a robot would make a better subtitle.
