It's a relief to know I'm not the only one, at least! I always want a draft to work more like a puzzle, with problem sections becoming easier as I work on other sections. But in this exact discipline there seems to be something stubbornly linear about my brain.

(I ask as someone who struggles to move beyond *any* words that feel wrong, no matter how many times I try to do so for the sake of momentum. Just ends up feeling like I'm building a second floor on a weak foundation.)
