one aspect of the Biden admin has been an enormous redirection of capital away from tech bullshit and into Building Stuff, and I think this explains a lot of the hysteria among VCs bsky.app/profile/lolg...
A Quiet New Deal is going on, and Biden is doing all the things Trump pretended he would do and will immediately steal credit for.

Lost my sweet orange boy yesterday. He was brimming with personality and was so often a bright spot of my day when brightness was hard to come by. I'll miss him so much

Really great conversation from @kyla.bsky.social. Reminds me how many economists feel alienated from the mainstream of their field because it lacks a fundamental connection with its object of study: people.

The president of the UNC system is worried not enough faculty have been fired after post-tenure review.

Is it common for burnout to not really sink in until you have a little time off?

This is why I think the SEC's rules will be so crucial. I think if investors/businesses were forced into an honest accounting of the costs of climate change, we'd see far more political support for mitigating measures. The distortion of capital from underreporting has knock on political effects
Investors routinely ignore physical climate risk (you know *waves arms* everything that's been happening), and only worry about transition risk (how the economy changes with a changing energy mix).
