Can't remember if I've noted this before, but the Seattle Police Department plans to use the JumpStart tax, originally dedicated by law to four progressive goals, to pay for surveillance cameras in the Stadium District along with policing at the World Cup games next year.

The County Council just took a unanimous 9-0 vote to establish the Broadway Facility fund, paving the way to opening a Crisis Care Center on Capitol Hill.
The King County Council is hearing public testimony on the Capitol Hill crisis care center right now, ahead of a final council vote approving funds for the facility.

Just like in committee, testimony has been heavily weighted against the center so far.

Trump and the GOP slashes to food assistance are about to hit about 170,000 Washingtonians.
King County is stepping up with $755K in grants to keep food banks running. But let’s not lose vision, no local grant can cover the damage of Trump and the Republican Party’s cruel agenda.
King County gives hunger relief groups a boost as SNAP cuts loom
The funding comes as some low-income families will this fall see their SNAP benefits slashed or cut entirely as new restrictions begin to roll out.

This is really bad.
Real Change confirmed today that two of our vendors have been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This action is a direct attack on a protected community and poses a chilling threat to the safety and well-being of all individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty.

Great reporting from @amysundberg.bsky.social on the work King County is doing to get folks living on the streets into housing. Housing first works!!! ❤️
My latest for @theurbanist.org about King County's permanent supportive housing initiative: in 2024 the program showed improved health outcomes for its residents and 95% of its PSH residents stayed housed over the course of the year.

Happy to be reporting some positive news.
