Our servers have the capacity to accept new schools again. amPIL will allow students to submit their own RAG feedback, generate feedback sheets, and predict topics students might need help with from a SoW. Find out more www.amPIL.co.uk

Project #reddwarf talkie toaster update. Running well on #raspberrypi with #ollama #llama3.2. Speech recognition and TTS currently online, but I do have a (less accurate) offline version too. Next job is to hollow out the innards of an old toaster! 🍞

Anybody like any toast???

Never seen this method before. I think I like it!
At #mathsconf37 @mathsjem.bsky.social did a ‘fun with factorising’ session and taught us this fun way of factorising. I came home and showed my year 11 son, he did the second one and liked the new (well, very old!) method! Thanks Jo! #MathsToday

Great idea for core maths teachers!
In #mathstoday I shoved the core maths prelim materials into chat gtp and got it to come up with some fermi questions. It's the first time I've tried anything like that and it was surprisingly successful!!

Re: AMSP funding.
I wrote to my MP expressing concerns about the cuts to AMSP funding; she wrote to the DfE, and this is the reply she has forwarded on to me.

Hopefully some good news for the AMSP…

Teacher pension rates increase to maintain scheme sustainability
With the third pay increase on the way, check which band you belong to
The bands are also rising, all by 1.7%, to help offset the effect of the pay increases

Project talkie toaster update:

Finally got around to starting this using an offline LLM

The code is almost ready, just need to stop it getting into an endless loop listening to its own responses and answering itself

Stack
Raspberry pi 5 8gb
Deepspeech
OLLAMA with llama 3
Coqui TTS

Ofsted.

-Give all schools 3 targets following every inspection
-Assign an officer post inspection to collaborate as a case worker in a supportive manner to help schools attain
-It will be obvious how good the school is to the general public due to the nature of the targets

Solved it

Lightbulb moment… found out it is possible to install a LLM chatbot onto a raspberry pi and run completely offline. There is only one thing for it…

✅offline speech recognition
✅local LLM
✅TTS

Very sad news about the AMSP today 😢

Without a doubt the some of the most impactful CPD I have ever been part of has come from them

TFM, Core maths, and subject leader network meetings

Thank you to all involved over the years. You really made a difference to maths education 👏

Today Y13 were studying collisions of spheres and wanted to know “why, in the spec, do spheres need to be of equal radius?” A good occasion to teach the general lesson that sometimes, by simplifying problems, you lose important features. Here the Impulse isn’t parallel to the plane. #MathsToday

Things I learnt today…

My old MySpace page still exists myspace.com/danwilson282 albeit without my sweet custom css, or well anything I added

There is evidently an existing bylaw I am not aware of that means you don’t have to pick up your dog 💩 if there is snow on the ground 😤

Just realised the first iteration of amPIL is 8 yr old today. Starting off on an out of control excel spreadsheet, through a MS access app, then migrating to a PHP web app, and is now a modern VueJS/Laravel supporting 67 schools. Only seems like yesterday as an idea from a corridor conversation

I’ve decided to make this my permanent new home. Reason:

I counted the latest 30 posts on my feed on each. On one platform , 7 were right leaning political posts and 5 were ads. Only 3 were education based.

On the other, no political posts, no ads and the non edu posts were interesting to me :)
