I don’t care what pundits or the old dudes at Hockey Canada have to say. There is no justification for leaving Bedard and Celebrini off the Olympic roster. I don’t have much faith in HC but I really really hope they do the right thing here

Finally!! This has gone on for far too long. BC taxpayers do not deserve to be taken hostage by these convoy ostrich grifter freaks. Good riddance
Meanwhile, in Canada: "The Supreme Court of Canada will this morning decide whether to hear an appeal of an order to cull a flock of more than 300 ostriches at a farm in the B.C. Interior." www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Actually, most of us *will* notice it. Most of us are struggling to pay our bills.

Unacceptable to suggest increasing GST after the planned increase to the capital gains tax was cancelled.

How about we tax the rich fairly instead of nickel and diming regular Canadians?

Not a fan of many of Carney’s recent moves, but the way he ended that clown show was pretty funny.
Mark Carney seems to have done the impossible and ended a Trump press conference early.

This is a fairly bold move that relies on the Bloc voting for the Throne Speech.

The federal NDP cannot and will not survive if they continue along the LPC-lite path. I hope they continue to take risks and forge a new (/old) path.
The NDP just said they’re going to vote against the Throne Speech.

This is a confidence vote, so if it doesn’t pass, say hello to another election!

That said, the Bloc will likely vote in favour of it — given Blanchet has suggested he’ll prop up the government until we have a deal with the U.S.

Can’t begin to tell you how much this makes me appreciate Chrystia Freeland
Donald Trump really, really, really dislikes Chrystia Freeland.

Like they probably haven't been in the same room in four or five years and he's still publicly attacking her.

Please say this in English to English media @mark-carney.bsky.social
During his appearance on #cinqchefs, LPC Leader
@MarkJCarney points to a "common theme" among Israel's Netanyahu threatening to seize more territory in Gaza, Putin's invasion of Ukraine, and Trump threatening Canada.
"It's about territorial integrity...this is absolutely untouchable."

Despite Mélanie Joly's initial denials, the fact remains that Canada brokered a weapons deal that explicitly identifies Israel as the end consumer. This is immoral given Israel’s ongoing genocide, but it also breaks Joly’s explicit promise to Canadians.
Mark Carney's Liberals are dodging questions about a CDN company's contract to supply the Israeli military with up to $78.8 million of artillery propellants, despite Joly's promise to block military exports to Israel last year. @readthemaple.bsky.social www.readthemaple.com/the-liberals...
The Liberals Are Dodging Questions About A New Israeli Arms Contract
It’s unclear whether the Liberal government knew about the deal before it was reported by Project Ploughshares.

Folks on the Bellingham subreddit complain about B.C. licence-plated cars clogging up their Trader Joe’s and Target parking lots. Perhaps now is their chance for revenge…
What do we think about this?

Are malls around the Lower Mainland going to be inundated with WA and OR licence-plated cars?

What's the economic impact of this?

Will I have to fight off Americans on Switch 2 release day at the Best Buy?

So are you going to shift private capital out of land speculation & into productive industry, tax passive & inherited wealth, & close corporate loopholes?

Or will we be relying on deficit spending and cuts to programs & services?
During this crisis, we must act with purpose and force. My government will fight U.S. tariffs, protect Canadian workers and industries, and build the strongest economy in the G7.

I’m not an economist, but I don’t see how we do this without shifting private capital out of land speculation & into productive industry, taxing passive & inherited wealth, and closing corporate loopholes.

These are all policies that wealthy donors consistently lobby against.
“We’ll build the strongest economy in the G7.”

Canada, Mexico, Russia… Nigeria, Iraq, Ukraine, Venezuela… all not on this list
Full tariff list here. Canada and Mexico are, confusingly, missing from the list.

Trump believes that power and wealth justify violating others without consent. That’s the explanation for most of what he does and says
In essence, Trump is arguing that countries can have no authority to regulate, tax, or control any imported goods — even if they treat domestic products the same way.

Lol at the Americans chastising Canada on “food safety”
The White House is arguing that Canada banning single-use plastic, e.g., is harmful to American imports.

SNL skits came super early this week
This is somewhat imprecisely worded, and some people in the replies are confused about how the Senate works. So here is live video of what happened. (TL;DR, it’s pretty much what Vicky says.)
