Hey SFSers! Would you like to be nominated to the Council for Underrepresented Voices in the society? Have any suggestions of someone to nominate? I'm happy to write a nomination, but I don't feel like I know anyone well enough to just do it. So lemme know! 🌎💧🧪

Depending on your relationship with your family/friends, explaining your research to them can help you develop these important communication skills and learn where you can improve your explanations or level of detail!
Every year around now, I start to see grad students on social media bemoan that they’re going home for the holidays to a family that doesn’t understand their research, or what they do in general, and it breaks my heart. 🧵 🧪 #SciComm

Did you know... that there are freshwater sponges???

Here's a photo I took of some in a lake in Michigan near me. I love finding them, and telling everybody about them. 🤓

Did you know... there are freshwater jellyfish?

I find them in many lakes I study. Too small to sting us, they live as polyps on the bottom, producing medusae ("jellyfish") when conditions are right. My photos aren't great, so enjoy this one by Jan Hamrsky, www.lifeinfreshwater.net.
