Confirmed: the guy in a neon lime Tesla with hydraulics, rocket sound effects, and a SpaceX decal is also the guy wearing sunglasses on the backside of his head and having a loud convo on his phone inside Target.

LAPD choppers are a malignant nuisance. They're harbingers of surveillance, operated *continuously*—yet the city's own data show they raise stress, impair cognition and burn 100,000s of gallons of gas. The best part? there's no evidence they deter or reduce crime at all.

It's time to ground them.
Ground the choppers
The LAPD's helicopter mania is both a policy disaster and a symbol of our malignant, badly functioning surveillance state.

The new Uber safety ads are so bizarre. "We know there's a problem with our rapey drivers. Here's a tool that puts the onus on YOU to deal with it!"

Hello. I wrote a nice long essay about AI and this very strange moment where we're constantly told we're living in the dawn of a strange new future but the only thing that's actually clear is that everyone feels pretty unmoored and uncertain. I hope you'll read it
AI Is a Mass-Delusion Event
Three years in, one of AI’s enduring impacts is to make people feel like they’re losing it.

Our societal obsession with convenience is fucking us over in so many ways. My hot take is that people only think they want convenience. Optimizing every moment of our lives isn't making us happier.
My Galaxy Brain take is that theaters screwed themselves with reserved seating. Among other things, it used to be that most of the audience was seated before the trailers began, lots of eyeballs on pre-show ads. Now, the trailers, which are also ads, start, and the theater is often still empty.
AMC Theatres is now working to shorten the amount of ads shown before a movie.

My job as a professor is not to create a serviceable worker. My job is to help foster thoughtful citizens or community members.

If that sounds fanciful it’s bc corporate interests have spent decades framing how we talk about education so they don’t take the heat for immiserating labor conditions.
Do not accept the premise that education is to blame for abysmal jobs outcomes.

“The fantasy economy's framing of economic inequality… focuses exclusively on education…deflects attention away from decades of public policies and changing business practices that have…contributed to stagnating wages”

This always and forever.
no one becomes a police officer, ICE officer, any kind of officer without at deep desire to tell other people what to do and be able to punish them for not doing it

the insatiable need to be The Authority = is the foundation of these institutions and the people who join them

just so we’re all clear: the reason they keep using dolls as their example is because they’re trying to frame caring about material stuff as feminine and thus inherently shameful
Bessent says that little girls who are sad about having fewer dolls should just have it explained to them that they will have a better life for it
