Increasingly realizing that my concept of what motivates people to amass power is misdirected.
I thought people craved power due to some warped psychological or egotistical need and enjoyed impunity as a benefit of obtaining it.
Now I can better see that ensuring impunity IS the point.

Anyone else experiencing some kind of weird time dilation tonight? Like 3 hours feels like 6 hours even when doing the usual. Very strange.

Finished Stranger Things rewatch. I feel like where they left off is where we are now: we thought we had defeated the enemy but it came back stronger, and we lost. Now we are watching our world burn, living in the upside down. Good will win out, but there's a battle ahead.

What I love about PNW is that there is always somewhere not far where you can go to "touch grass." Standing at Timberline and looking out over endless trees and sky was so grounding. It reminds you of natural reality versus the reality we collectively create. Perfect antidote to bring too online.

I'm doing my Stranger Things rewatch in preparation for the final season, and I just love the nods to other 80's movies, like Aliens, E.T., and Stand by Me. Makes my Oregon-Trail-generation heart happy 😊

I feel powerless to change things on a larger scale, but I absolutely can put up boundaries with MAGA relatives and keep them out of my circle. And it feels good! Free up that energy for other things.

I used to read books like Lord of the Rings or watch movies like Star Wars and think the villains were unbelievable. And of course, now watching the tech oligarchs (who could not spend all their money if they tried) destroy civilization for power, I’m like, guess I was wrong. People are that awful.

Watching reruns of Unsolved Mysteries. I forgot how wild the ride is: UFOs, murders and assaults, then a brief happy story at the end about a long lost reunification.

It kinda feels like there is no appreciable effort, from certain spheres (non-right, of course), to save us, but rather an ill-fated jockeying to line up to rule over the ashes.
Some people are clearly waiting it out and not because of fear.
