Consider Max Born, forced by the nazis in 1933 as one of their very first acts in power to leave Gottingen and flee to Cambridge, along with basically all their other best physicists.

by freezing all federal grants, trump is fundamentally transforming the relationship between the executive and congress. he is asserting dictatorial authority over federal spending, transforming congress's lawmaking powers into advisory authority. it is a constitutional crisis

Would love to understand why every Democrat is not out there every second of the day explaining in plain English that Donald Trump has declared war on cancer patients.
From a source inside the National Cancer Institute:

“Everyone is scrambling to figure out how we’re supposed to work to serve the public when we can’t engage at all.”

This does not ease many concerns.

The subtext in this memo is that the Trump administration plans to politicize many aspects of NIH research.
The National Institutes of Health has clarified the restrictions on travel, purchasing, and meetings that President Donald Trump’s new administration imposed on NIH staff last week, easing some concerns about measures that set off chaos within the agency. scim.ag/3WD2g3j

Here's my latest on what's happening inside NCI and NIH. I've seen emails and directives about a lot of this now. There's so much bad stuff.

FDR launched the modern NIH in a speech on October 31st, 1940.

"The President officially dedicated the new National Cancer Institute along with a new central campus for the NIH. His speech voiced strong support for public health and medical research."
