If I had to pick a favorite bird, it would be the shoebill. I would also vote it "Most Likely To Win a Staring Contest".
Native to East African wetlands, the shoebill is in the pelican/heron taxonomic order (Pelecaniformes). Their scientific name Balaeniceps rex means "whale-headed king".

It's a good 5 hr drive from El Paso to Big Bend National Park, and it's one of the lowest traffic national parks in the US.
A line of hundreds of cars, closed alternate entrances, no maintenance of trash & bathrooms. There are going to be a lot of very angry people & hope they know who to blame.
