Haute-Savoie, ex-Bristol. EU and UK citizen. Crypto-sceptic.
They’re depressing. There’s
consumerism, envy and greed and precious little insight, analysis or even any sense of hope.

I buy the FT Weekend for all of those instead.
I used to absolutely love reading Sunday newspapers.

It was an indulgence to just kick back and lose myself in reading about a whole load of fascinating topics I would never have thought to explore.

Now it feels like being beaten with a bouncy castle — alarming but ultimately just a load of puff.

A Labour Leader who wanted to stay in the EU would have swung the referendum.

The swing you needed was absolutely tiny.
That's not to say the experiment did not have serious costs. A serious Labour Party could have won the 2016 referendum for Remain. It might also have peeled Tory MPs away from no-deal Brexitism after 2017.

I probably phoned my parents once a week while at university.

It was 1993 so email/SMS etc were no options. Is this unusual?
People are very hard on young people on here, lack of critical thinking, lack of responsibility etc, and then you see something like this and it all makes a different kind of sense.

Interested in what makes a Christmas song a banger destined for yearly repeat?

Why is Merry Christmas Everyone by Shakin’ Stevens an exemplar of that while Thank God it’s Christmas by Queen just seems lame and cynical?

What’s the magic ingredient? 🎅🏼🎄🎶🎵

It strikes me that Lord Rothermere should be black-balled. And his wife too.
On every public policy committee I sat on - gambling, drugs, animal experiments, law of homicide and others - someone would ask ‘But what would the Daily Mail say about our recommendations?’ I now regret that we never gave the right answer. ‘We shouldn’t care.’

You open it up and eat it when you have people round. This isn’t complicated.

I didn’t know this story but it shows how one person can make a difference in a time of depravity.

Comparisons between the Trump admin and the Nazis are overblown but it does strike me as frightening how few are willing to stand up to the former.
Also, I recently found out about Herman's much, much more fun and badass younger brother Albert.

Tech Bros: No, you need energy-consumptive AI with a side order of fascism.

It’s clear to anyone paying attention that Farage won’t investigate the Russian infiltration of Reform.

The Prime Minister must step up and launch a national investigation.

Thanksgiving-related comedy
This is bullshit. I was like a ninja flitting in and out of the kitchen when it was available, and all my dishes were ready at 4 on the dot. Chuck showed up 50 minutes late, and my falafel waffle was cold

Why wouldn’t you want to know? What have you got to fear? Losing your precious Brexit? Being revealed as a traitor and a liar?
Surely, anyone decent and honest who genuinely cares about our country and our democracy has nothing to lose from this. So, sign up.

Would be very interesting to hear Admiral McRaven’s take on this. I doubt he’d approve of his successor’s behaviour.
This the man who degraded his uniform by accepting and giving an order to murder men in the water.

Unsurprisingly, no seaman but another product of the murder-school that the US special forces have become.

Try, convict, degrade, imprison and shut it all down.

I’m an ardent pro-European and unlike most of the people replying to this, I think this represents a profound lack of flex at a time of existential crisis - on behalf of the EU.

Brexit was a dumbfuck move. EU responding in kind with the US abandoning all of us is fucking insane.
