Over the weekend, we received reports of federal agents from ICE and Customs abusing their power.

And now, we're being told the Trump Administration wants to deploy 100 military troops to Illinois.

One thing is clear — none of this is making Illinois safer.

In any other country, if federal agents fired upon journalists when unprovoked — what would we call it?

If federal agents marched down streets demanding papers — what would we say?

Authoritarianism — let’s not pretend it’s something else when it happens in our American cities.

State officials must resist the Trump regime's expansion of terrorist ICE
Text SIGN PPJUFJ to 50409 — With the passage of H.R. 1, the Republican-led Congress has provided Donald Trump and Stephen Miller with $171 billion to dramatically escalate mass deportation operations, including $45 billion for immigration detention centers and $30 billion to hire more ICE agents and expand transportation networks. This represents an unprecedented increase in funding for ICE that exceeds the total immigration enforcement budgets of previous administrations combined. As a result, we can expect to see more ICE raids targeting essential workers and other non-criminal immigrants in communities across the nation. These raids often involve masked officers using excessive force, as well as impersonators further spreading fear and chaos. Moreover, the new funding will allow for the expansion of inhumane concentration camp-like facilities such as the "Alligator Alcatraz" complex built on swamplands in Florida. Crucially, this federal crackdown relies heavily on cooperation from state and local law enforcement, incentivized by $14 billion in grants. You must use every power at your disposal to oppose ICE operations, protect your constituents, and stand as a bulwark against this authoritarian overreach. Deny all cooperation with federal agents, forbid local law enforcement from abetting such abuses, and publicly condemn these atrocities in the strongest terms. The American people demand moral leadership in the face of this humanitarian crisis manufactured by xenophobic extremists. Inaction is complicity - the time to act is now.

Loudly reject Trump's unconstitutional threats to suspend habeus corpus
Text SIGN PZQFMC to 50409 — The Trump regime's threat to suspend the writ of habeas corpus is a blatant overreach of executive power that must be swiftly condemned and rejected by Congress. The Constitution unambiguously states that the privilege of the writ shall not be suspended "unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it." However, as multiple federal judges have ruled in recent weeks, the United States is not currently facing a rebellion or invasion that would justify such an extraordinary measure.   By attempting to unilaterally suspend habeas corpus without congressional approval, the president is flouting the clear separation of powers enshrined in our founding document. The writ of habeas corpus is a fundamental safeguard against arbitrary detention, a cornerstone of our civil liberties that dates back centuries. Its suspension    would enable the unchecked imprisonment of American citizens without due process, a terrifying prospect that strikes at the heart of our democratic principles.   Congress must speak out forcefully to remind the president that only the legislative branch has the authority to suspend this critical constitutional protection. The judicial branch has already weighed in, affirming that the conditions for suspension do not exist. Any attempt by the executive to circumvent these co- equal branches would represent a dangerous consolidation of power and an assault on the rule of law.   The American people deserve to have their civil liberties vigorously defended by their elected representatives. Failure to condemn this authoritarian overreach would be a dereliction of Congress's sworn duty to uphold the Constitution. Grave threats to our democracy demand an equally resolute response grounded in the principles that have guided our nation for over two centuries. The sanctity of habeas corpus must not be sacrificed at the altar of expediency or political opportunism.
