I hear he’s even going to require something called al-jabr in later grades. Horrifying.
Breaking News: Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani is going to require all New York elementary school students to learn Arabic numerals.

The madrasa indoctrination is starting very early.

(This post is a test.)

Part of me wants to go on a rant about what Trump’s tastes in musicals says about him and his deep insecurities/desire to be seen as high class and cultured by a specific NYC set all while TOTALLY missing the point of the actual shows.

The larger part of me refuses to think that much about him.

Seen a lot of people calling the Steam Machine the GabeCube, as is right and good, but there is another missed opportunity name: The Black Box.

(Orange Box, you were so powerful.)

Saw a Broadway show tonight and I feel alive again.

(It was Maybe Happy Ending and I WILL be thinking of this show for days and spontaneously crying over it. (Complimentary.))

This has been on my mind all evening. The Senate vote does not end the shutdown, but it DOES force the House into session to do THEIR vote... which means that waiting reps can be seated, which means that needed vote is seated.
The ONLY way this "deal" (taken with several grains of salt) ends the shutdown is if it's identical to the house version.

The alleged "cave" by the GOP staff regurgitators at Axios is nowhere close to the house bill.

Which means it forces Johnson to convene the house to vote on it.

I've been saying this since the mayoral primaries but I dearly need Lander to do One Specific Thing.

Dragging* Ash to Chess with me and can’t wait for the rapid-fire moments of recognition as they hear songs I sing constantly around the apartment in their natural habitat.

I find myself breaking out into the Herbert Hoover song from Annie a lot lately.

No reason, I’m sure.

On the one hand, I’m upset I’m about to miss one of my oldest friend’s wedding because of political BS. On the OTHER hand, the person getting married is my One Republican Friend*, so it kinda serves him right.

*He’s like a brother, he did an aliyah at my Bat Mitzvah, we’re baffled, too.

It's really cool that some of the original sit-inners were present for the unveiling of this memorial.

This isn't the point at ALL of this, but this is the first time I've realized VA has both a Prince and a King William county.

Why. Why did we do that one, guys. (But great work voting, VA!)
Every single county in Virginia shifted Blue.

What Mike said.

I used to work for Feeding America.
Another bonus to donating money is they can buy things they can’t have donated, like milk.
Find your local food bank here.

Donating food is great, but donating money is better if you can. That way they can purchase in bulk (cheaper that way), buy what is most needed, and save time sorting/ inspecting.
Find Your Local Food Bank | Feeding America
Find the Feeding America member food bank nearest you. Over 200 member food banks can connect you with free food, food pantries, soup kitchens, and mobile pantries in your community.

Re-reading the Protector of the Small quartet because it’s the kind of comfort read I need right now and there are so many moments that have made me tear up in a way they never would have before, or moments that hit with more force because of what they are.

But I don’t WANT my area of study from my history degree to be relevant. It is in fact the last thing I want!

(I focused on how geopolitics led to the development of nuclear weapons, the evolution of the nuclear taboo, and the cultural memory of the Manhattan Project and the Atomic Age.)

"Tzefardea Tzedek" (Frog of Righteousness)

As soon as the Portland Frog became a meme, Jewish social media blew up with jokes about the 2nd Passover plague - tzefarde'a (frogs) - and the Rabbinical commentary around it. I knew I had to make a calligraphy piece encompassing all of it. (more in alt.)
