Sen Baldwin – "What would you say to a parent who shows up to Head Start to drop their child off and their program is closed. Why are there delays in funding?"

Sec. Kennedy – "I don’t know that there are."

Sec. Kennedy doesn’t think there are Head Start funding delays. The data says otherwise. From Jan. 1 to Apr. 15 2025, HS grantees received nearly $1 billion (34%) less $$ than in 2024. States + territories affected by regional office closures experienced especially large delays.

Cuts at HHS to Alzheimers, worker safety and health, long COVID, and much more. Senators are asking-- how can you fire most of the people and assume the work gets done?
RFK Jr claims in the Senate HELP committee hearing that the administration hasn't fired any NIH working scientists. I'm sure there are many scientists who would beg to differ.

During today’s HELP hearing, I want answers: closing 5 regional HS offices and laying off staff threatens the timely disbursement of funds and key TA for local grantees. What is HHS’ plan?

During National Public Health Week, let's revisit: what is public health? Here's one example- reducing HIV/AIDS and saving lives through research, monitoring, outreach and education, preventive medication, and global funding and support. We should be celebrating and pushing ahead, not dismantling.
In the first Trump administration, an effort to stop transmission of #HIV in the US — a now realistic goal — was launched.
Instead of doubling down, the second Trump administration has inexplicably cut many of the programs aimed at stopping spread of HIV. www.statnews.com/2025/04/07/h...
HIV prevention was making great strides. Then Trump’s budget axe fell
CDC layoffs and program cuts gutted branches responsible for a slew of HIV prevention services, imperiling decades of progress.
