this week I’ve been spending most of my time sewing instead of sitting at my computer. My cat has *noticed* and she is not happy (I have disrupted her nap routine)

Okay so it turns out the constant heat is actually quite important to get the dye to set. I'm not surprised but I guess I will have to get a fire pit after all. Most of the color rinsed out and the fabric is slightly tanner than an unbleached linen. I'll post pics when it dries.
Then we heat the dye bath and add the fabric. I don’t have a fire pit so I’m using a propane wok grill. this is after just 60 seconds. you should boil it for 30-90 minutes but I don’t want to use up all that propane so I boiled it for about 5 minutes and I’m going to let it soak overnight.

imagine spending money on a new hobby when you could just use trash from your yard instead

Trying some natural dye with black walnuts today. My father in law brought me a bag of them from his yard.

Eyeing this tutorial for a sleeveless medieval side-laced dress and wondering if I have time to make one out of my curtains before I leave today (I don't, and I won't, but it is tempting) handcraftedhistory.blog/2020/12/14/m... #mysca
Making a sleeveless dress in easy steps
I decided to make another sleeveless middle dress to wear under my velvet houppelande. The other one (similar to this one, also in black silk taffeta) I made before apparently shrank on its own in …

I made a bunch of Viking beads to wear with my new garb. Quite a fun stash-buster project and I will definitely be making more when I get back from Pennsic. #mysca

They did not even stop mocking marginalized people in their attack on fascists. "haha trump is GAY for Satan! also satan is GAY haha! we are very progressive"
The SOUTH PARK formula is to make one direct attack on fascists every few years or so and then ride that goodwill while they resume mocking marginalized people the rest of the time. Stone and Parker are entitled dicks who very occasionally do the right thing.
I will actually buy the book when someone writes about the actual harm Matt Stone and Trey Parker have done to my generation with their "both sides" style of fascism and dont bother in my replies.

People will tell you to stick to neutral colors in your home decor but those people are wrong. Painted my stairs purple and I wouldn’t have it any other way

Dropped my sewing project mid-stitch as I was suddenly overcome by the urge to make some biblically accurate brooches

If I had a nickel for every time Pilou Asbæk was hired to absolutely ruin a great literary villain I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that its happened twice

Off Menu was a great book! First one of my summer reading picks and I will definitely be recommending it to my library kids this fall.

Happy #makeaterriblecomicday2025! It’s mandatory that you create some piece of sequential art — what it is and how you make it is up to you! Have fun! You might as well!

I wish more people understood that AI-assisted “search” is often this.

Sure, here’s some papers to cite on this topic.
… I very apologize, they are not real papers

Oh my God!? We've been added to the Library of Congress. A literary magazine that I make for fun in my basement as my midlife crisis has been added to the historical record, called the uh, ahem, Taco Bell Quarterly. We are the most prestigious literary magazine of all time.

I need everyone on Normal People internet to know that American Girl Doll Instagram is doing doll protests today. There are tiny t-shirts and signs. AND THEN I realized it's a joint protest with the Barbie ppl, where there are EVEN TINIER SIGNS.
