It's really hard to overstate how hugely favored conservatives were up until two months ago.

Here's the graph of Canadian polling between March 2023 and March 2025. (Reminder: blue is conservative.)

Those are months and months of 20+ point leads for Tories.

Hello AI Agents: Goodbye UI Design, RIP Accessibility
Autonomous agents will transform user experience by automating interactions, making traditional UI design obsolete, as users stop visiting websites in favor of solely interacting through their agent.

When I was a professor at University of New Hampshire, I used to teach a class on contemporary metamodern multimedia in which I would play this video for students. Giant screen; small, darkened seminar room...it would leave us all speechless. Including me—every time I saw it. Hope you feel as I did.

For Science Magazine, I wrote about "The Metaphors of Artificial Intelligence".

The way you conceptualize AI systems affects how you interact with them, do science on them, and create policy and apply laws to them.

What is common knowledge in your field but shocks outsiders?

Nearly every country on the face of the planet guarantees some form of paid leave. The United States, virtually alone, does not nationally guarantee any paid leave--not one day, not one dollar.

Generally, the median or mean wealth of an African-American householder with a college degree is less than the median or mean wealth of a white householder without a high school degree.

About 70% of the energy in the fuel used in an internal combustion engine becomes waste heat. Or, more pithily: 70% of what you pay at the pump goes out your tailpipe.
What is common knowledge in your field but shocks outsiders?

There are more deaths annually due to indoor air pollution from households cooking with solid fuels (e.g. wood) than malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS combined.
What is common knowledge in your field but shocks outsiders?

Ants often act like inefficient goofballs. They got lost, accidentally drop their good and walk in circles trying to find it but eventually give up and go home, half of the ants in a nest just sit there 24/7 and do absolutely nothing.

Good read from Steve Westlake

Don't see why we shouldn't focus on the behaviour of individuals w very high-emitting lifestyles & assets

"avoiding the topic of individual behaviour change serves mainly to protect the lifestyles of the wealthy, who have the most choice to act in lower-carbon ways"
Why billionaires should take the lead and declare their own emissions cutting targets
