We’re building a #PeoplesMovement.

Today, over 3 million people across the country stood up to say HANDS OFF our democracy.

And history shows that when just 3.5% of the population engages in sustained, peaceful resistance—transformative change is inevitable.

Repeat after me.

Eliminating the Department of Education will hurt public schools and the kids who need help the most, AND THAT IS THE POINT.

For any academics mass downloading government data, remember to download the documentation too!

Well, apparently I will be spending today in a mad scramble downloading every piece of data the Dept. of Education has.

Never thought I'd see the day when I would block the US Department of Education on Facebook. But it's just become a platform for school choice and anti-DEI propaganda. Heartbreaking.

This is what the government did with 120K+ Japanese Americans in 1942.

I know. I was there in those camps.

If this passes y'all can say goodbye to funding for students with disabilities, Pell grants, Title I, any sort of data on education, and more. This would be catastrophic to our already struggling education system.
Rep. Thomas Massie introduced a bill to get rid of the Department of Education.

Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

These tariffs (that we will be paying for) are being imposed to help offset the lost revenue of the tax cuts Trump and his cronies are hoping to extend. In other words, they are robbing the American people to enrich themselves. This will be a giant upward shift in wealth.

Opinion: Saskatchewan should consider charter schools amid education crisis

The larger plan behind these funding cuts is clear. The federal government is preparing to wield its greatest tool of leverage over states to get them to fall into line: The immense purse strings of the US government. Won't give it back till they play ball.
January 28, 2025 at 8:19 PM
Fun fact: Head Start and other Community Action Programs are the only programs funded directly by the federal government through grants to local organizations, instead of block grants to states. And there's a reason. 🧵

Also Early Childhood Education more generally, because it's incredibly important, not just for the children but for their families, local communities, and the US as a whole. And it's under serious threat from the new regime

There doesn't seem to be many people on here talking about Head Start, and since that's the subject of my dissertation research, I suppose I'll fill that niche.

PEPFAR, started by George W. Bush, has saved more than 25 million lives worldwide. 600,000 people would die over the next decade in South Africa alone, which relies on PEPFAR for only 20% of its H.I.V. budget. Some countries are almost entirely dependent on the program.

PEPFAR’s computer systems also are being taken offline, a sign that the program may not return, as Republican critics had hoped.
