True and I think participation is super important. But, the power of the 3.5 rule is not in one-off participation but having 3.5% engaged in sustained resistance.
“The 3.5% rule is a concept in political science that states that when 3.5% of the population of a country protest nonviolently against a government, that government is likely to fall from power.”

If you can get to a No Kings rally this Saturday, please do.

As a lifetime Texas Ex I am embarrassed by the capitulation to and embrace of political/financial power. This is not how we “change the world.” This is how we partner with exploitation and become nothing.
Universities like UT Austin have shown that they will place ideology and political power ahead of the most vulnerable students, faculty, and staff they serve.

Fight against the closure of Black, Latino, and Gender Studies at UT Austin. Support our students.

Doesn’t feel very congruent with a pro-life ethos — one where the imago Dei is affirmed.
There are reports that the *entire* office of special education at the US Dept of Education has been cut. These hardworking folks ensure kids with disabilities get equal access to a quality education.

America’s children deserve better than this.

This Texas Ex Life Member is not proud of this development.
This is such an absolutely disgusting response to the proposed 'compact'. A board of regents/governors that acts this way is operating against the spirit of higher education.

Fascist regimes pushed narratives of domestic bliss, yet relied on women’s unpaid labor. In the US today, ‘womanosphere’ influencers promote the same fantasies

Dr. Demetre, in his resignation from the CDC, said this:

“I have never experienced such radical non-transparency, nor have I seen such unskilled manipulation of data to achieve a political end rather than the good of the American people”.

It is an outrage that RFK Jr. remains as head of HHS.

Just canceled Paramount+ and converted that monthly fee to a monthly donation to PBS. I already planned on doing so due to the @colbertlateshow.bsky.social nonsense. The monitoring of news content that was baked into the deal with the administration and FCC is even more appalling.
After months of cowardly capitulation to this Administration, Paramount finally got what it wanted.

Now it's time for companies, journalists, and citizens alike to stand up and speak out, because unchecked and unquestioned power has no rightful place in America.

I dissent. 🧵

You should pay attention to how much historians are shouting about the dangers of this moment. We have studied the history of humanity’s inhumanity to humanity. What we’re seeing from this regime is reminiscent of the worst moments from our past.

Having worked in community mental health imbedded in a community health clinic I speak with first hand knowledge when I say that this is categorically false. Our safety net programs serve a vital, life saving role for millions of people and they SAVE tax payers $ through preventative care.
Mike Johnson on Medicaid: "What we've talked about is returning work requirements ... you return the dignity of work to young men who need to be out working instead of playing video games all day. We have a lot of fraud, waste, and abuse in Medicaid."

Way to go Rutgers! Waiting to see if the rest of the Big Ten follow suit and codify this thing. All higher education needs to take note and protect one of the most valuable resources this nation has.
Encouraging news I would've missed if it weren't for Liz's weekly update: "The Rutgers University Senate passed a resolution proposing a Mutual Defense Compact in which members of the Big Ten conference will pool funding and legal, policy, and communications capacity and expertise."

More of this!
I flew home from #SciTalk25 last night, so this week’s Meeting the Moment debrief was written at altitude, while I watched lightning pulse in thunderclouds.

That this is what rises to the top is evil. The use of a gulag, stripping away of rights and care for marginalized ppl, gutting of safety nets, and positioning poor and POC to be a minimum wage (or less) labor force to be exploited and held down far outweighs this.
Schiff: "That may end up being the most enduring image of the Trump presidency: The president out on a golf cart while peoples' retirement is in flames."

“…there’s always more misery among the lower classes than there is humanity in the higher classes.” (Victor Hugo)

Ouch! And not wrong…

In his 1967 speech, The Three Evils of Society, MLK called us to choose between materialism and humanism. As a country we continue to choose the former. (1/2)
