Catching up on #mörktober, it's day 20: ASH

In the drainage channels beneath the eastern bridge, THE CINDER KEEPERS endure. Descendants of Glopstepalof’s court who hid when the giants came, they have spent the centuries burning themselves to ash and rebirthing themselves from the flames. If Glopstepalof ever knew they were here, he no longer thinks of them. They believe their suffering will restore the swamp kingdoms. Each immolation adds another layer to the ash drifts that fill the channel, grey dunes marked with webbed handprints and the drag-marks of those who pull themselves back up from the pyres. Their centuries of burning have compressed the swamp’s original geography into dust, a ghost-map of what once was. Scattered on the coming floodwaters, it would give Glopstepalof’s magic something to recognise and return to. Without it, the flood is just a drowning. With it, it might perhaps be a resurrection. THE KEEPER HP 6 Armour -d2 (flame-calloused skin) Morale 10 Ritual brand d4 + burns (d2 each round for d6 rounds) Regenerates d3 HP per round unless fully immersed in water A full page illustration shows a skeleton being immolated
