Normalizing the use of military troops for domestic law enforcement sets a dangerous precedent.

No President should be empowered to disregard states’ independence and deploy troops anywhere — with no check on their military power.

This federal overreach is not normal or legal.

"The line snaked out the door, down the sidewalk, into the parking lot — men and women and children and the elderly, hundreds of DC residents who arrived at the city’s family resource center for a shot at emergency rental aid."
Hundreds of struggling renters in nation’s capital line up to ask for help
Many had lost jobs and fallen behind on rent. But D.C.’s emergency rental aid program is limited after major budget cuts.

Hundreds of residents stood outside in the cold starting as early as 6 AM yesterday, all in the hope of keeping a roof over their heads.

The Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) isn’t failing — we are failing ERAP by chronically underfunding it.

NEW: The Court has ruled that the National Guard deployment to DC is illegal and granted a preliminary injunction.

As we made clear from the beginning: the US military should not be policing American citizens on American soil.

This is a victory for DC, Home Rule, and American democracy.

Indiana just announced it will send 300 National Guardsmen to DC in December.

Alaska plans to deploy its National Guard to DC in March 2026.

The Pentagon ordered all 50 states to form "quick reaction forces” trained in "riot control."

This will be DC's long-term future if we do not push back.

Phone lines immediately down. Hundreds lined up for hours in the cold. Funding slashed from $27 million to $9 million.

This is supposed to be DC’s lifeline for low-income tenants who fall behind on rent.

Instead, we get this.

Portico unlawfully set higher income requirements for prospective tenants with housing subsidies.

D.C. residents deserve the same right to govern themselves as every other community.

Yet House Republicans, who know little about D.C., are pushing bills that meddle in what should be local decisions.

I stand with D.C. leaders against these harmful attacks.

Democrats in Congress: Hold the line.

Do not back these bills that jeopardize DC’s right to govern itself.

DC is a testing ground for tactics that MAGA will try across the country.

Vote NO, and focus on helping struggling families afford health care.
This week the House is set to vote on two bills targeting D.C.'s criminal justice laws. One would repeal a 2020 city law that imposed new training, discipline, and disclosure standards on police. The other would bring cash bail back to D.C. 30 years after it was eliminated.
We stand united against all 13 anti–DC Home Rule bills in Congress.

DC is home to more than 700,000 residents who pay taxes, run businesses, and serve in the military. Like all Americans, we deserve the right to set our own local laws.

Congress should reject this unprecedented federal overreach.

The House bill being voted on today to require cash bail in DC is insane.

DC hasn’t had cash bail since 1992, and crime has plummeted since.

Our current system is near identical to federal law.

People should be held pretrial if they pose a safety risk — not because they are too poor to pay bail.
