The stakes have been raised. The Democrats have got to run on putting these people in prison. They have to. Jobs, food, all the rest, but shooting a mother in the head on a public street? None of this Garland stuff. "The full force of the government will be brought to bear" on this and similar.

Remember: Trump didn’t actually have a principled stance against the Iraq War before it began. His real problem with it was that it was a failure, and perceived as such, which is the worst thing he can thing of. And he has enough self-regard to believe he can do the same thing this time and succeed.

Whether this was random street crime or targeted political violence, I think it was bad for the president to unnecessarily put the National Guard in harm’s way like this. They simply don’t need to be there.
