One automatic, and easy, tax relief that @labournz.bsky.social could offer low income earners is to deduct student loan repayments from GROSS wages, not Net.

Deducting from gross wages automatically means the total gross value liable to PAYE would be lower. Instant tax relief.

Labour must agree to 12% KS/2032, but in one fell swoop, trump National by confirming that if an employee is on a contributions holiday, the employer must still pay the employer contribution

And mandate that the employer KS contribution is in addition to salary/hourly wage

Q as a name is reserved only for a specific Star Trek character.

Not for introducing a new leader’s singular attempt at a party’s opportunity to obtain votes for an opportunity to get into Parliament for an opportunity to implement a land value tax as the sole opportunity to rebalance NZs taxation
That’s what I thought at first too, which would also be funny, but this graphic they posted announcing their new leader indicates it is just plural to singular. Have they submitted an official name change with the electoral comm?

New Zealand, but for hydro electric gentailers which pay dividends in excess of actual profits earned rather than invest in new generation capacity as they are secure they can just bilk the (usually meek and compliant) NZ consumer dry.

The Luxon Govt’s bonkers plan to build 17 Big New Roads that we don’t really need will cost us at least $44 billion.

That’s enough to rebuild Dunedin Hospital 23 times over or to massively improve public transport and cycle infrastructure in all our cities. #nzpol

$5b-plus blowout for eight Roads of National Significance

Utter shades of “Cyclone Alfred” in Brisbane City which sent everyone home from the CBD, shut down rail networks, diverted planes, for 3 long days, and it ended up being a damp squib.

Gold Coast OTOH, was hammered, where life continued apace with minimal shutdowns.

Metservice alerts see-saw.

New Zealand needs to

Utterly repudiate capitalism and acknowledge that in 40 years of following the Hayek prescription, it has not worked, will not work, and leaves everyone worse off
October 21, 2025 at 11:35 AM
New Zealand needs to

Remove the party vote, have 127 electorates, and change the electorate vote system to STV.

It’s ridiculous someone can win an electorate seat under FPTP on 28% of the vote.

New Zealand needs to

Implement free GP visits for all NZ citizens.

Stop directing people to ED.

If it’s a cut that a bandaid is all that’s needed, a GP can charge for visit (seriously, I’ve seen people at ED for a simple knife cut that a bandaid would heal).

New Zealand needs to

Implement national minimum standards for apartments

Basically, a 1 bedroom (that can fit a queen bed with 2 side tables at 10sqm) must have a minimum of 45sqm living space

The number of bedrooms increases the living space. So a 2bedder should have a minimum 110sqm footprint

New Zealand needs to

Institute a land value tax of 50% on undeveloped commercial land

100% if it’s used as carparking only

Carpark buildings non-exempt unless they have apartment buildings on top to increase accommodation numbers

New Zealand needs to

Set up a long term public infrastructure fund.

Use pension funds (local and overseas) to invest in public transport

Ensure local ownership

Use investment to increase route frequency, offer dividends

And upgrade rail
October 21, 2025 at 11:27 AM
New Zealand needs to

Buy back public assets like power companies. Ensure that 20% of any profits go straight back into investing in renewables

30% goes into dividends

50% goes back into share buybacks

Over time, the lower dividends lower shareprice

50% for buybacks brings it to 100% ownership

New Zealand needs an Employment Wage Authority.

Sets minimum wage by industry
Sets wage increases in public sector for ceos etc
Caps MP pay rises by the minimum annual increase provided to low wage earner
October 21, 2025 at 11:23 AM
MP wages should only rise by the same amount they increased the minimum wage by.

Any overseas based registered and enrolled voters not yet received their local election voting papers from the private, for profit, ElectioNZ, that seeks to minimise local democracy where possible to maximise its profits?

Overseas enrolled registered voters herez. Election enrolment details valid and up to date. Still haven’t received local body voting papers.

That third party voting company “Electionz” that runs local body elections for profit really is fucking woeful.

New Zealanders seem to have forgotten that it’s always been the forgotten corner of the world where neoliberalists try their schemes first. The poor media analysis, overly generous voting rights for non-citizens, and goldfish memories ensures NZ will remain the poor cousin to other western nations.
August 20, 2025 at 11:45 AM
The Electoral Commission NZ website is a wankstain on democracy (like, the actual govt electoral commission, not electionz)

NOWHERE on the website is there ANY information that refers people to vote.nz

Grumpy email sent that as the electoral commission, they need to do better.

Absolute travesty

From Australia, the only reason I now open RNZ app is to see the headline as “DAVID SEYMOUR ASSASSINATED”

Or equally as good

“CHRISTOPHER LUXON DIES AFTER BRAIN ANEURYSM”

Sadly, neither of those two headlines have appeared yet.

What a crap timeline.
