I hope we'll be having more and more conversations about how to teach with critical reflection as AI comes for our minds. Thank you @breana13.bsky.social for having me on #TheFacultyLounge and for your crucial work 💙

I spoke on @BAMRadioNetwork with some fellow educators about the state of reading and left surprisingly optimistic. If we make reading a social activity, will it become easier to turn off tech and sink into a book, like we used to?

Sadness. NJ's The Star-Ledger to cease printing. A huge honor in my writing career was having the Star-Ledger, the paper thrown on the lawn of my childhood home, name Unaccompanied Minors one of the top 10 books of 2014. You'll always be home to me Star-Ledger...thank you for being true to Jersey.
Last day of publishing for my local print newspaper. Pretty wild to think about.

Killer review of Jerald Walker's new book MAGICALLY BLACK in @therumpus.net this month. While you're there, read the interview I did with him in 2017 about his masterpiece, THE WORLD IN FLAMES: A Black Boyhood in a White Supremacist Doomsday Cult! His childhood was bananas as it sounds.

Testing Literary Bsky crowdsourcing! I'm teaching Art of Nonfiction in the spring. Students have increasingly been reading books from the past 15 years and I want to introduce more canonical works, nothing before 2010. So far: Woman Warrior, A Moveable Feast, The Fire Next Time. What else?
