Today is a day to remember the sacrifices freely given, at home and abroad, in times of war and afterwards.
We are not a political account, but it's important to remember that people give in many ways - in bravery and in fear - for the love of their families, friends, and nations.
- Andrew.

Another beautiful #London map today (Forest Gate, 1867-93), and one that might be a handy accompaniment to the modern resident or visitor, as it details incredible local developments over the last decades of the 19th century. I will turn over the next few posts to the opening words of Tony Kirby…

Higham Ferrers 1924.
The birthplace of John White (1885 – 1974) & the home of his footwear empire, Higham Ferrers is unexpectedly rich in #history, ably laid out in Barrie Trinder’s map notes.
And with the mention of footwear, you might have guessed that this is a new Northamptonshire map!

I have two unwanted tickets for the Guardian's A year in Westminster, with John Crace, Marina Hyde, and Pippa Creraa at the Barbican, London, on Tuesday evening, 2 December. We can't go. But I'll happily email the tickets, for an appropriate donation to a suitable charity, eg the RNLI

At one point before they were abolished we had spoiler warnings on Three Little Pigs and Pepy's Diary.

The stately expansion of the Scottish capital can clearly be seen on our newly published Edinburgh Bruntsfield 1877 map. The delicate lines may be relatively simple on the page, but you can sense the Victorian grandeur from the scale and size of the properties.
