I often think of Botham Jean’s family when I’m pondering forgiveness. I don’t know if I’m able to forgive someone who took my brother away in such a callous way. When it comes to violent racism, is forgiveness really for the harmed or does it benefit the one who caused the harm more? #blacksky

I need someone to turn this book into an audiobook. I know some of these ladies are still with us and could read their entries. It would be epic to hear their stories in their own voices. #blacksky #addtoblacksky

The book I’m reading is radicalizing me even more for Black women and again, I didn’t think that was even possible. This trilogy is thick as hell though 😭

I’m really not a fan of those that say “I’m not my ancestors” in a “you won’t do me like you did them” type of way. If it wasn’t for your ancestors doing whatever they needed to do to survive, you wouldn’t be here. Passive resistance is still resistance

If anyone’s looking for alternatives to GoodReads, I highly recommend StoryGraph. It’s owned by a black woman, and the platform is so much more accessible and easy to use.

This makes me think about how Malcolm was in Selma speaking at Brown Chapel on the invitation of #SNCC activists. He’s said to have told reporters outside in a nut shell that they better listen to what Dr. King was saying or they’d have to deal with him. A few weeks later, he was assassinated.

I have therapy in a few hours. I know this man is about to wreck me then look at me and tell me he’s proud of my progress 🙄😭.

Side note, does anyone else want to be IRL friends with their therapist? I do but I also don’t want to find another one.

There have been some wild revelations in this book like Du Bois beefing with Walter White and basically calling him a white man 🤯. Now, WW was a hella light skin (see pic) and used his ability to pass to reporting on lynchings.

WW retaliated saying W.E.B. liked sleeping with light skin women 😭😭

I’m currently reading/ listening to this book & my mind is blown 😲. 6 chapters in & it’s fundamentally shifting how I see the Movement and Dr. King.

In learning the nuance of history, how do I not place leaders like him on a pedestal while honoring their work because they are still flawed humans?
